Mission & Vision
The Susan Moore Elementary Library serves as a vibrant hub of learning and imagination where every student discovers the joy of reading and exploration. Our mission is to foster a lifelong love of literature while nurturing curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking through engaging experiences with books, hands-on activities, and collaborative learning. We envision a library where students feel welcomed, inspired, and empowered to explore new worlds, ideas, and possibilities through the power of stories and discovery.
A World of Stories and Genres
At Susan Moore Elementary Library, students embark on literary adventures through carefully curated read-alouds that transport them to fantastical realms, introduce unforgettable characters, and spark meaningful conversations. Our extensive collection spans diverse genres—from thrilling mysteries and heartwarming realistic fiction to imaginative fantasy and inspiring biographies—ensuring every reader finds stories that resonate with their interests and reading levels. Through regular book checkouts, students develop the independence and confidence to select titles that matter to them.
Hands-On Learning and Creative Play
Beyond books, our library is a dynamic space where learning comes alive through interactive stations and engaging activities. Students construct, create, and problem-solve using Legos, Magna-Tiles, and K'Nex, developing spatial reasoning and collaborative skills. Puzzles, games, and Find-Its challenge their minds, while Hidden Pictures activities encourage focus and attention to detail. These experiences complement literacy development and create a balanced approach to learning that honors different learning styles and interests.
Year-Round Exploration and Discovery
Throughout the school year, Susan Moore Elementary Library offers an ever-evolving calendar of special activities that keep students excited and engaged. Students tackle call number puzzles that build research and organizational skills, explore the art and mindfulness of origami, and participate in Book Speed Dating—a dynamic activity where students quickly sample multiple titles to discover their next great read. Each activity reinforces library skills, celebrates literature, and reminds students that the library is a place where learning, creativity, and fun intersect.
